What is DOP

According to its function, plasticizers are divided into main plasticizers, namely solvent-based plasticizers; Auxiliary plasticizer, i.e. non-solvent plasticizer; Catalyst type plasticizer;
Common plasticizers are dibutyl phthalate (DBP), dioctyl phthalate (DOP), epoxy soybean oil, trimethyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, dioctyl sebacate, chlorinated paraffin, etc. PVC is the main end user of these plasticizers. The main applications of plasticized PVC are wires, cables, floor and wall veneers, building materials, automobiles and packaging materials.
DOP is a universal plasticizer, which is the most widely used plasticizer in polyethylene plastics at present. Its dosage accounts for almost 80% of all plasticizers. The chemical name of the general-purpose plasticizer DOP is dioctyl phthalate, which is mainly used for the processing of PVC resin. The PVC plasticized by DOP can be used for the manufacture of artificial leather, agricultural film, packaging materials, wires and cables, etc., and is widely used in plastics, rubber, paint, emulsifier and other industries. It can also be used for the processing of high polymers such as chemical fiber resin, acetic acid resin, ABS resin and rubber, and can also be used for paint, dye and dispersion
It is the most widely used plasticizer in industry and has good compatibility with most synthetic resins and rubbers used in industry. This product has good comprehensive performance, good mixing performance, high plasticizing efficiency, low volatility, good low-temperature flexibility, water extraction resistance, high electrical performance, good heat resistance and weather resistance.
DOP can be widely used in PVC cable materials, leather, synthetic leather, transparent materials, soft and hard pipes, edge banding, acrylic boards, rubber, polyurethane, foam sandals, soft boards, coatings, glue, adhesives, decorative materials and other products using plasticizers.
However, the toxicity of plasticizer DOP has become the focus of attention. A small amount of ingestion can cause shortness of breath and heart rate acceleration, while a large amount of ingestion can cause central system disorder and gastrointestinal discomfort, and even more seriously affect fetal malformation. At present, environmental protection plasticizer has gradually become the preferred plasticizer for manufacturers, especially in Europe and the United States and other countries where the use of plasticizer DOP is strictly controlled. Some PVC pipes exported from China need to undergo relevant quality tests to ensure that they meet the specified environmental protection standards.
